STORAGE / LOCAL PLANNING
Backup storage calculator
Estimate retained full and incremental backups, compression, upload and restore transfer times, and cloud storage costs using your own rates. Your planning inputs stay in this browser.

Enter your policy and calculate a plan.
Worst-cycle retained footprint
- Retained full backups
- Retained incremental backups
- Extra prerequisite backup days
- Estimated stored footprint
- Capacity with selected headroom
- Initial full upload time
- Average upload per day
- Average upload time per day
- Estimated monthly storage cost
- Estimated monthly download cost
- Estimated monthly total of entered costs
- Effective restore download bandwidth (Mbps)
- Incrementals for selected restore point
- Selected restore download quantity (one copy)
- Selected restore transfer time
- Longest full-cycle restore download quantity
- Longest full-cycle restore transfer time
Upload times assume all selected copies cross one shared link at the selected utilization. The footprint is the largest phase of the full-backup cycle at steady state; it is a planning estimate, not a measured backup repository.
How to use the plan
Enter a fixed dataset size, retained daily restore points and backup method. For incremental backups, choose a full-backup interval and expected daily changes. Set measured compression and available bandwidth, then calculate. Compare the stored footprint with your destination’s quota and the transfer time with your backup window.
The model assumes no dataset growth or deduplication. Compression applies equally to full and incremental data. Retention must preserve complete chains; object expiration rules should not delete their prerequisites. S3 and Storj labels identify the destination only: they do not alter your backup software or apply a provider’s internal replication multiplier.
