Data transfer calculator
Estimate transfer time, data quantity or required link speed from the other two values. Choose decimal or binary units and your effective link utilization. No files are transferred and no network speed test runs.
Set two quantities
Enter two quantities and calculate.
Transfer estimate
- Data quantity
- Link speed
- Effective transfer speed
- Estimated duration
- Selected utilization
Displayed values are rounded. Fractional bytes describe a continuous throughput estimate, not a count of complete file bytes.
How to use this calculator
Choose the missing quantity. For time, enter data size and link rate. For quantity, enter link rate and available time. For required rate, enter data size and your time target. Select the units used by your source and adjust utilization for overhead.
Bits, bytes and units
One byte is eight bits. Mbps is decimal megabits per second; MB/s is decimal megabytes per second. One MB is 1,000,000 bytes, while one MiB is 1,048,576 bytes. One GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes, while one GiB is 1,073,741,824 bytes.
Limits and privacy
The model assumes constant speed and selected utilization; setup time, interruptions and changing network conditions are not timed separately. Use a dot for decimal fractions; thousands separators and scientific notation are not accepted. Enter up to 15 whole digits and 12 fractional digits. Inputs stay in this page’s memory and are not uploaded, stored in browser storage or added to a URL.
